                  This is where the coal is formed

 

 

 

When the notch is full of hot particles, stop and remove the bow and spindle.
If it stays smoking past 15 seconds, it should be a good coal.

Hold the top of the coal with a tiny stick (or knife point).
Gently rotate the fireboard up and away clear of the coal.

  

 

 

  

 

 

 

    

 

 

   

 

 

 It will ignite the smallest sticks in the structure and they will then ignite the larger sticks.
